Dear NIH, please fund health communication research
Excited to share my new op-ed in MedPage Today, addressing the tragic NIH decision to cancel investment into improving health communication.
If there was one bipartisan sentiment that came out of the pandemic, it was this: the communication was terrible.
We have a chance to fix it. A new initiative with $150 million in NIH funding was planned for communication research, but in a strange and potentially politically-motivated turnaround, this funding has been cancelled.
This is a terrible mistake. People need to make informed decisions about their health, and that requires us to improve how we communicate medical information to the public.
